Tianjin is preparing to host the largest-ever Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit from August 31 to September 1, where leaders from more than 20 nations are expected to participate.
In a major technological highlight, a humanoid AI robot named Xiao He has been deployed to assist journalists and delegates. Equipped with multilingual capabilities, real-time information processing, and emotional recognition algorithms, Xiao He will provide seamless support to media personnel during the summit.
Speaking ahead of the event, Xiao He said it was designed to facilitate “cultural neutrality, factual precision and adaptive learning,” ensuring effective communication between international delegates, media, and organisers. It also highlighted arrangements for media coverage and cultural showcases, including Tianjin Yangliuqing woodblock prints and traditional crafts in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Zone.
Founded in 2001, the SCO has expanded into one of the world’s largest regional organisations, with full members including China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Central Asian nations, while Belarus, Afghanistan, and Mongolia remain observers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after concluding his two-day Japan visit for the India-Japan Annual Summit, will arrive in Tianjin for the SCO Summit. He is scheduled to hold key bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the event.
